I feel like I say this a lot; I didn’t mean to disappear for a couple of weeks ๐Ÿ˜† I saw a plastic surgeon shortly after my last post, and then a week later had my skin cancer removed (right after I’d done up a list of posts I want to make). It was much more involved than I was expecting, and I still have a bandage on my face (it will hopefully be gone in 48 hours). I’ve not felt like sitting at my computer, because wearing my glasses isn’t exactly comfortable at the moment ๐Ÿ™

The World Cup has started. I’ve only watched one game: France vs Australia. I don’t support Australia (I’m not patriotic) so was going for France, pretty pleased with the result. My team (Germany!) is playing tonight, I’m looking forward to it – although my expectations are low this time round (which seems the opposite of everyone else haha).

NEW ON MY SHELVES

Bought:
I got the paperback copy before Amazon USA (and all global stores) stop shipping to Australia (they’ve decided our tax regime is too hard to deal with, so will default to the crappy AU store that’s only good for ebooks imo!) ๐Ÿ™„

And some new lovelies for the Kindle – I already had the first book in the box set, but it was cheaper to buy it again with the next two ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay for sales!

I guess it’s officially winter now. We’ve had the heater on two nights in a row! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ It doesn’t help that our house is all tiles and wood floors, the temperature difference when you enter the house at the end of the day is noticeable; it’s like an ice box (which is fine for summer, not so much winter). Meh.

On Tuesday I’m going to see a plastic surgeon. It feels so weird to say that ๐Ÿ˜† it’s for a skin cancer that’s in an awkward place (on the side of my nose, I don’t want a dent in it!) If you didn’t know it was there, you wouldn’t be able to tell; it’s very small, I’m just really good at spotting them these days.

(All book covers in this post will take you to their respective Goodreads pages).

I’ve actually been reading both of these for ages (my Goodreads challenge is looking so sad). It’s not that they’re bad books (the opposite, I enjoy them while I’m reading) I’m just struggling with sitting down and actually reading them.

I’m trying to get better at looking after myself. I do yoga really sporadically so am trying to make it more of a habit, and I have discovered Yin is my favourite type at the moment. It’s gentle enough I can do it without fearing I’m going to injure myself.

Well this week was…a ride. It was one of those that felt really long, but also felt really short. Weird.

Dad had a fall on Friday, on his way to meet me for lunch (cue guilty feelings). He called me to pick him up and take him home, I thought he was sick until I saw the state of his hands (he’d also hit his head, but wouldn’t let me take him to the hospital). He was in shock, seems okay now though. I don’t dig this reality check, I’m not a fan of my parents getting older ๐Ÿ™

(All book covers in this post will take you to their respective Goodreads pages).

I have so many feelings about this series (not all of them are positive ๐Ÿ˜† ) I’ve just requested the last 5 books from one of my local libraries (the person who is just ahead of me with the ebooks is a slow reader, and I’m impatient, so physical books it is!) My super local library is closed from the end of next week until March, so I’ve asked to pick them up at another one not too far away. I’ve driven past it many, many times; but have no idea how to get in there. So that’ll be fun haha

This week hasn’t been very exciting. I’ve gone to work, come home, read books. We did find a restaurant at lunchtime on Friday that has 7 types of chicken parmigiana, that was a bit of a thrill ๐Ÿ˜†

CURRENTLY READING
(All book covers in this post will take you to their respective Goodreads pages).

I’ve removed Origin and A Caribbean Mystery from my current reads, just because I know I won’t even look at them until I get through The Morganville Vampires series…or get sick of it, whatever comes first! I’ve read a couple of them this week, and just keep going; I’m blaming the cliffhangers at the end of each book – which are driving me crazy. Someone at the library (I found the rest of the books!) is a few books ahead of me, I’m hoping I don’t catch up before they’re done!

I am becoming a bit obsessed with The Morganville Vampires Series. I’m only on book 3, and my library only has the first 4 books (why do they do that?) so soon I’ll have to start buying them I suppose. There’ll be a bit of a break from it coming up though, I have a review book I need to read. Never mind, it’s not due until March. Score!

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done one of these, that is my excuse for the amount of books that appear ๐Ÿ˜† I’ve not been around much due to internet issues, I have mobile broadband for emergencies but it’s not cheap so I’m trying to keep my usage low ๐Ÿ™ meh.

CURRENTLY READING
(All book covers in this post will take you to their respective Goodreads pages).

I don’t usually read so many books at once, but Origin is a giant hardcover and I don’t like lugging them around. A Caribbean Mystery I’ve actually been reading forever but decided to finally hopefully finish it, and The Dead Girls’ Dance is on my Kobo for easy travel (um…I kind of ignored all my other books in favour of reading the first one, but that’s beside the point).

This week has been a struggle. I went to a funeral yesterday (Saturday); it wasn’t for someone I knew personally, but the husband of a colleague. And it was rough. Fuck cancer, is all I have to say.

The one good thing that did happen (for me) was my favourite show came back. It’s the little things, and The Librarians really does take me to a happy place.

Aside from that, the weather cannot make up its mind and it’s giving me a headache. I wish it’d pick one setting and stick to it! We’re going from normal summer days to storms and rain and winter temperatures, it’s weird. I had a nap this afternoon (uh, Saturday, I wrote this in the evening oops) just to get away from my headache ๐Ÿ™

I was so distracted this week, but not by anything in particular (except for Friday night, because Psych: The Movie and The Grand Tour had to be watched ๐Ÿ˜† ) My Kobo arrived on Monday, I like it, but the screen resolution isn’t the best (not a shock I suppose, since I got the cheapest one). The screen does feel more responsive than my Kindle Paperwhite; but I imagine that’s due to age. This week I also got new glasses (which brought a major headache for a couple of days, I forgot how awful new prescriptions are).

Still listening to the audio…except not really, because I’ve not actually put it on to listen to for a few weeks now. Since I only listen to it at work, it’s a bit of an issue (I don’t have that much to go until it’s done!)

And I borrowed my first library book, Ink and Bone (I’ve already grabbed the second one as I should finish it today) ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s Saturday night as I write this, and I am super tired so sorry for any typos. I’m not having the best week health wise; the highlight was when one of my specialists called me on Friday night, to tell me I could quadruple the dose of one of my medications ๐Ÿ˜† Hopefully with the increase I’ll be feeling well again (or at least not feeling sick).

I have a Kobo e-reader arriving on Monday so I can borrow books from my local library (which I’ve re-joined). I hope I don’t hate it, Australian libraries do not (or cannot) support Kindles with Overdrive (unlike the USA) and I refuse to read on my phone *sigh*

I just saw Murder on the Orient Express with my parents, at a cinema that has just been renovated so all their cinemas have reclining seats. Being short isn’t the best with these, one’s feet don’t touch the floor and the reclining aspect was too far back to be comfortable. I might have to take a pillow next time ๐Ÿ˜†

This week has been unexpectedly busy, so my Thor review didn’t get done as planned. I am aiming for this week (I did say Monday somewhere, but it might be Tuesday. It will happen though!)

Still listening to this (well, I’ve not touched it for over a week, but whatever), and I’ve not had time to pick anything else up ๐Ÿ™ I’m not really sure what I want to read next.

Book Review: By The Currawong’s Call by Welton B. Marsland. I’m a bit bummed this book seems so niche (m/m and Australian) that not many are enthused by it, but while it has a handful of reviews they’re all good ones ๐Ÿ™‚

NEXT WEEK ON THE BLOG

Movie Review: Thor: Ragnarok (for real this time!)

With any luck there’ll also be a book review, but it’ll be whatever takes my fancy when I get to writing it out.

NEW ON MY SHELVES

Bought:

All the Yasmine Galenorn ones were on sale when I bought them ($1.29 AUD, $0.99 USD).

I also ordered a bunch of historicals last night, as I’ve decided that’s my next genre to try. It’s baffling that the first of many series aren’t available on kindle, so I went for paperbacks instead (which were cheaper than the rest of the series e-books anyway. Weird).

For Review:

None! I consider this a success, now if only I could stop buying books until the end of the year (pre-orders don’t count ๐Ÿ˜› )
