Life Happens #5

I’m baaaack! For real this time! There have been…a number of developments, over the past month or so.

The main one is that I dropped out of uni. Yes, really. I realised that I don’t think the career I was working toward was going to make me happy. And as it stands, I don’t think any career is going to make me truly happy. What’s wrong with just being satisfied with where you are in life? I work to live, not the other way around; and my current job is just fine…most of the time.

I actually started this post over a week ago, and can’t even remember what I was going to write. Oops! My reading mojo still hasn’t kicked back in, but I’m reading sporadically. I’ve even managed to finish a couple of books, woo! ๐Ÿ˜†

One thing I’ve been following within the community is the whole cockygate thing. What a mess! If you’ve not heard about it, here is a post by Tymber Dalton that is a general summary (with links to further information), and the vibe of it reflects my reaction. Just. WTF?! One good thing to come out of it is that I’ve discovered more authors to support (and a few to avoid).

I managed to hurt my back a couple of months ago (I’m turning into an old lady!) I was bending over to pick up a t-shirt to hang on the clothesline and when I straightened up my back was all ‘lol HI LET ME GIVE YOU PAIN FOR NO REASON!’ My physio said my muscles were stuck ‘on’ and it’s not quite 100% better but I’m almost there. Between this and the time I pulled a quad muscle when going to kneel on the floor, I do wonder if my body is just falling apart!

Oh. I got a new tattoo! My first in over 10 years (and my 7th overall). I’m too lazy to resize and embed a photo, but here’s an instagram link, just after it was done so it looks a bit swollen. It’s all healed now, and as it turns out – it’s hard to take photos of your own upper arm.

As for blog related stuff. I’ve changed hosts to Flywheel. It took me a while, but I realised I like managed wordpress a lot more than doing it all myself; but I also like having the freedom to add my own plugins and stuff. It’s much easier to manage my site (and harder for me to break things haha). They made it really easy for me to transfer to https too, I did have a couple of hiccoughs; but I could figure them out this time. Sorry, I sound like an advertisement. I’m not, I just like them a lot!

Also, for those of you signed up to receive my blog posts via email: I have ceased using the provider I was and am now using Jetpack (WordPress). I did not transfer any details over, so you’ll have to sign up again (widget in the sidebar). I’ve also updated my Privacy Policy (which took days thanks to the GDPR stuff, phew! Look at all those words!)

And that’s me done. I’m going to go catch up on some blogs!

Edit: Crap. The previous provider of my blog post emails sent this one out. I’m so sorry guys. That contact list is being deleted right now! I thought I’d disabled it, apparently not ๐Ÿ™ ugh.

  1. GAH. SO MUCH WORDS. I need to – not only update my privacy policy – I also need to create one. Haha. Honestly, it’s a daunting task!

I’m so glad you’re back. You do you, hun! Nothing worst than spinning the wheel of crazy forever only to realize you’re not having fun.

    • Haha the privacy policy was a totally daunting task! I decided to take the extra paranoid route and include the kitchen sink, but I’ve noticed many haven’t ๐Ÿ™‚

Right? We only live once, it’s best to make the most of it really!

  2. Welcome back! That’s great you realized you weren’t enjoying what you’re studying – not everyone is going to love their job or have a proper “career” but that’s okay! I still don’t know what I’ll end up doing full time, so we’ll see! LOL

Ooh sorry about your back. I always feel like I’m falling apart; bad back, knees, bad hearing, etc. It’s crazy!

    • Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel kind of useless sometimes, because of the lack of a career drive. I’m forever confusing to my Dad, who has worked within the same industry all his life (he lives for it). I’ve been in the same job for almost 8 years now, I’m hoping I’m there another 8 at least!

lol this getting older thing sucks!

  3. Aww, sorry to hear about the back pain! That’s the worst. I had a pulled muscle or something in my back once, not even sure what it was, but for a few days it was excruciating. Ugh, not fun. And isn’t GDPR fun? More ugh. ๐Ÿ™‚

Good for you for knowing what you want, and if that doesn’t include uni or a certain career, that’s fine right? I think sometimes we do get hung up on what maybe we should do, or think we should, but I feel that way too. I work to live, not the other way around- I like how you said that. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great week!

    • It’s funny that we don’t even realise how our body moves until something hurts!

I feel like a lot of people go after careers where they think they’ll have some level of comfort, and don’t give much thought to how they personally feel about it. I do like my current job (most days) I don’t need anything high flying to live ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Nice to see you posting! I hope your back feels better soon. These things happen, no matter the age! Sounds like you made a wise choice about uni… and you can always go back later if you change your mind. I agree, sometimes we work so we can afford our lives, and that’s fine! The blog looks great. Good to know about your new host!

  5. Ohhh Bre, your new tattoo is absolutely stunning! Beautiful shading. I’m really sorry about uni darling, I know that can’t have been an easy decision to make. I think most of the workforce really just tolerate work to feed and support their families, I imagine back in your parents heyday it was pretty much the same too. I hope you can relax a little more now too, it can’t have been easy juggling work and study either. I’m all for more Bre having Bre time โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅ

    • Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ I do love it!

Dad’s one of those people who’s always known what he wanted to do and has done it. His work is also his hobby (and he’s retiring at the end of the year, which should be interesting lol). Mum’s more like me though. Unfortunately I’m living at home because I don’t have the $ to live on my own just yet *sigh* uni put a major bump in the road in that plan. I need to win lotto or something ๐Ÿ˜†

  6. I hope your back is feeling better. I picked strawberries and planted flowers over the weekend and am definitely feeling my age as well. I need to get moving more! I think if uni wasn’t doing anything for you, then there’s no harm in quitting. It gets really expensive and all adds up. Thanks for visiting The Farm!

  7. I hope your back feels better. I never realized just how important the back is until I hurt mine a few years ago! Wow did that hurt and was it inconvenient. I’ve been following the Cocky Gate madness a bit and it’s crazy! I’m hoping the trademark and all of the rest of it gets struck down soon but it’s been impressive how the community has risen up to help. Hope you have a great week!

    • It’s totally inconvenient, this little group of muscles causing so many issues. Pfft.

The cockygate stuff keeps getting more wild as it goes on I think haha I’m actually enjoying seeing it all play out, and the detective hats people have put on to dig into the history of the series and covers and all that. It’s like our own follow along story! I just hope it ends well ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Welcome back! Hope your back feels better soon, ouch sorry about the back pain I feel for you.

The cockygate thing is insane and it’s odd she got away with trademarking such a common thing, honestly it should be thrown out the window. I heard she called romance readers basically stupid and that they don’t really care about titles as long as the cover has a naked man on it. Every time this woman opens her mouth she buries her short lived book career more and more.

Sorry the stuff at Uni wasn’t what you were looking for in life, hopefully you will find what makes you happy.

    • Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ it looks like the trademark thing is progressing, and she has a weak case? At least that’s how I’ve been reading it, we’ll see how it goes! Someone posted a progression of all her covers, and others with similar titles. It was an eyeopener, that’s for sure (it’s a bit rich for her to say everyone is copying her, because nope!)

  9. Glad to hear you’re back! That sounds like a good decision then to drop out of uni, if the job you can do with that isn’t going to make you happy and it just add stress. Your new tattoo looks great! Sorry to hear about hurting your back, I hope it’s fully healed soon.

I’ll make sure to sign-up anew for your blog, so I’ll continue to receive your posts :).

  10. Yay, glad you’re back! If you didn’t feel like uni was right for you anymore, then I’m happy for you that you’re doing what’s best for you ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry about the back and now leg pain though :-/ You don’t sound like an ad at all. You’re just happy with your new host! I’ve also been talking about my new host a lot. If a company is good, then word of mouth promotion is helpful to everyone! Have a great week ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ lol I’m mostly better now I think, I’ve discovered if I keep moving I don’t hurt – the struggle is getting moving in the first place!
