Life Happens #4

Posted 8th April 2018 by Wattle in Life Happens / 28 Comments

I didn’t mean to disappear for almost 3 months. It just kind of happened.

I also didn’t mean to blog today, but I’m sitting on my bed with lecture notes spread out all over it, text book and notebook by my side; naturally it seemed like a good idea to do so ๐Ÿ˜†

Here’s a short list of what my past few months have looked like:

  • I have not read a book since I finished Bite Club in late January. I did try to read the next novel in the series but got annoyed at everyone and everything in it. And honestly haven’t even glanced at a book since.
  • Somehow I became addicted to watching Ink Master during two weeks I took off work (just because I could, staycation ftw!) And then I worked out I had soooo many seasons to catch up on, so have been working my way through seasons 1 to 10 (up to season 5 at the moment). Everyone is so bitchy, I love it!
  • And then there’s the weird Property Brothers thing (they have so many shows). I want to renovate a house when I have money and time to do so. Maybe when I’m 60?
  • Uni started. I dropped my statistics unit pretty quick (second time I have done this), then realised it’s an elective from a list with about 10 options I can choose from; so it’s off my list! I can’t remember if I mentioned it, but I changed my degree from Environmental Science and Marine Science to Genetics & Molecular Biology and Biological Sciences. There’s way more contact time than I was expecting ๐Ÿ˜ฎ but I get to wear my lab coat a lot more, so win?
  • I do sometimes question my sanity about being a ‘mature age student’. I’m pretty sure I’m older than my lab demonstrators haha. The plus side: student discounts.

I hope everyone is well. I have been reading blogs here and there, but not commenting (sorry). I will try to catch up with everyone over the next few days.

I’m not sure where my blog is going to go from here. Books, life, other stuff? There’s not much motivation in me right now; but from past experience I know I’ll pick up a read at some point in the future which will light the spark again. It’s just a matter of time.

  1. Hi! It’s nice to see you back with updates! Don’t worry about being the โ€˜mature age studentโ€™ or about catching up with blogging, good for you and take care!

    • It really does get in the way doesn’t it? I sometimes think about all the free time I’d have if I didn’t have to do things, like work ๐Ÿ˜›

    • I did an arts degree when I was fresh out of high school and it was such a waste of time. It’s much different the second time around (I feel like I didn’t find my brain until just before I turned 30!)

  2. Good to hear a bit from you again! I was wondering what had happened as I hadn’t seen a new post for a while. That’s too bad you haven’t read a good book in such a long time. I haven’t had a 5 star read yet this year, but I did have a bunch of good reads at least. It seems like you found some good show to watch at least, that sounds nice. I think I saw a part of an episode of Property Brothers once, it was pretty fun. It’s always impressive to see how they can renovate a whole house and make it all looks so different.

Sorry to hear you had to drop an unit, but it sounds like you could pick something else instead? I used to be pretty good at statistics back when I was in school. I hope your courses go well. Good luck with your study!

    • Thanks Lola ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve juuuust started reading book 6 of the Oxford Tearoom Mysteries! I always turn to a cozy when I’m stuck.

It blows my mind sometimes how they can take a house and make it look like something entirely different.

  3. Sometimes a break is necessary. But hey, what better time to blog than when you have a million other things to do and feel like procrastinating, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ At least it sounds like you’ve found some TV shows you’re enjoying! And that’s also good you won’t have to take the stats class if it was one you were struggling with. Try not to worry about being older than the other students, you’re getting a degree and learning, that’s what counts!

  4. Sometimes you just need a break! It’s nice to hear from you again. That’s great you don’t have to take stats, and I hope your new major is a better fit. And don’t worry about age – people go to college at all sorts of ages! It’s awesome that you’re doing it at all and hopefully it leads to some awesome experiences. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • So far the new degree seems like a better fit, even if it is very challenging ๐Ÿ™‚ I just hope by the time I’m done it’ll have been worth it!

  5. as you said, life happens. I tend to get burned out closer to Fall or during summer because it gets so busy here and no time to read. Hoping that won’t happen. At least you caught up on some shows ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Lol about Ink Master. Sometimes breaks are good- I go through phases too where books don’t really appeal for some reason, and then I binge a show! Ha ha nice to see you back tho!

Hope you had a good weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I used to go through phases of movies/tv shows and then reading, all separately. I guess I’m back there now. It’s weird. I envy people who seem to be able to read all the time!

  7. I could spend all day watching Lifestyle Home, the Property Brothers, Selling Houses Australia. Not a fan of the Love It Or List It American shows though, how that British woman can only buy a couple of stools and renovate a toilet with 120K is beyond me. Wow, Genetics & Molecular Biology and Biological Sciences and I had to cut and paste that because I couldn’t even spell it, that’s incredibly impressive. I go for long stints without reading too, usually weeks at a time, sometimes you just need a break and especially with your course starting back as well. We’re all still here if you want to update us sporadically, just don’t disappear entirely because not only would I miss you but also hunt you down <3

    • Lifestyle Home is the beeest (I’m forever annoyed there’s no +2 channel for it!) I prefer Love It or List It Vancouver, the regular one (with that lady) annoys me because I find her irritating lol I’m always amused at Property Brothers, where people act like they’ve never seen the show and they couldn’t EVER renovate a dump, how dare they show us trash houses!!!11! Location, Location, Location and Selling Houses Australia are my forever faves though <3

  8. Those renovation shows can sure suck us in, can’t they? I have so many house projects I would like to start . . . I hope school is going well for you. It sounds like you have been keeping busy. Sometimes time away from blogging is necessary. Other priorities and interests take up our time. ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope all is well. Have a great weekend!

  9. I hope life has been doing you well, Wattle! I totally understand unexpected blog hiatuses, but we all know life is always more important. โ™ฅ We’ve missed you from around here. And hooray for letting go of a class you don’t want to hold on to anymore!
