WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SCENE IN A BOOK?
Harry Potter’s first Christmas at Hogwarts, when he wakes up and has presents! It always gives me the warm fuzzies, that one ♥

DO YOU HAVE ANY CHRISTMAS BOOK TRADITIONS?
No. Maybe I should start one though *ponders* read a Christmassy book on Christmas Day (or Eve?) We don’t really have many Christmas traditions (one of them is food related, coming up below!) Dad always watches the cricket on Boxing Day though *sigh* I’m so sick of cricket and it’s only December πŸ™

DO YOU PREFER TO GET PRESENTS OF BOOK VOUCHERS OR BOOKS?
Vouchers. 100%. I don’t even know what’s on my shelves, if anyone buys me a book (that isn’t on my Amazon wishlist) I cringe inside – which is awful, yes. But I’ve received a number of duplicates despite everyone’s best intentions. Play it safe. Vouchers!

DO YOU GIVE BOOKS AS PRESENTS?
Only if someone wants something specific, or has given me a list as a guide. Or I know they don’t have it and they need it. This year my theme is actually colouring books haha I went for cheesy ones that I hope people will enjoy, it’s the thought that counts πŸ˜‰

WHAT BOOKISH ITEM IS ON YOUR CHRISTMAS WISHLIST?
Since Amazon AU doesn’t have vouchers yet (WHY?!) I shall settle for Dymocks or Booktopia vouchers instead! But really I’m expecting nothing bookish at all (I’m too good at acquiring things all on my own!)

WHAT 3 BOOKS WOULD YOU LOVE SANTA TO HAVE IN HIS SACK FOR YOU?

FAKE CHRISTMAS TREE OR REAL CHRISTMAS TREE?
I’ve had a real Christmas tree exactly once, when I was a kid (around 4 years old I think). I remember the smell. And the mess. When I had my first winter Christmas in Boston there was a real tree involved (not *my* tree, so it doesn’t count). They still smell great, but we just don’t have the same resources here (tree collection afterwards, being one thing). Also, I dislike the idea of cutting down trees for Christmas. We had a plastic one (still have it, somewhere) but the cats try to eat it, so now we have a metal one. I call it the glorified hat stand:

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT CHRISTMAS?
All the food. I would say family, but it’s just me and my parents. So I’m going to say not having to go to work haha it’s the little things.

WHAT CHRISTMAS BOOK WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
It’s a kid’s book. I still have my copy somewhere, I loved all the pop ups!

WHAT DISH ON YOUR CHRISTMAS MENU ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
My mother’s ice cream. We rarely have it outside of Christmas (if we do, it’s a very special occasion…I think it’s happened once in the past 15 years!) It’s 6 layers, 2 each of strawberry, vanilla and coffee (with walnuts). All homemade, all delicious. She even does it all by hand (and won’t let me introduce her to my ice cream machine). I’m lazy, I couldn’t deal with the stirring at regular time intervals.

WHEN DO YOU OPEN YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS?
On Christmas morning. Used to be when I got up as a kid (early). Now it’s when one of my parents decides to drag me out of bed (I really enjoy sleep).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG?
This has actually been my ringtone for about a decade now haha *ahem*

But if you want traditional:

ARE YOU DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS?
Yes, but I’m not going to get it. Because summer πŸ™

  1. What a fun tag. πŸ™‚ We’ve only had a live Christmas tree a few times. They smell nice but make such a terrible mess when the needles start falling all over the carpet. Love your tree! Looks very modern (for a glorified hat stand LOL). I love vouchers for books (gift cards). I’d love to get loads of Amazon gift cards for Christmas. Heavenly! The ice cream sound divine!

  2. Yes the first Hogwarts Christmas scene is a great one! I don’t have any Christmas related book traditions either. I also prefer vouchers although I am usually pretty good at remembering which books I already have. But I rather have vouchers as my reading moods can change quickly so then I can spend it on what I am in the mood for then.

I like to give my sister recommendations of books I think she’ll enjoy, but I rarely buy books as presents as it can be hard to know someone’s reading tastes. Giving coloring books sounds like a fun idea!

I like your metallic tree, sounds like a good solution if you have cats! I had a real tree often as a kid, but now I have a fake one as just like you I hate the thought of cutting down a tree just so I can enjoy it for a few weeks for the holidays. And fake trees are easy too as they don’t die and you can keep them around as long as you like.

Your mother’s ice cream does sound really good! I hope you have a great Christmas and yummy food!

    • I need to do a spreadsheet with all my books I think. There’s just too many of them to keep track of πŸ™ terrible really.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas πŸ™‚

  3. Oh yes. Vouchers all the way. I have endless copies of Marley and Me (and other animal books) and will never read those because the animals die in the end and nope. NOPE. lol

  4. Ahhh!!! You have A Cat Called Dog on your list!!! I love this! (I may have mentioned only a million times how much I love the book). And I LOVED the Jolly Postman series when I was a kid – it was so fun being able to pull out letters and interact with the book.

    • I think you’re the reason that’s on my list (it’s been there for a while now, oops, one day!) I loved how they made the Jolly Postman books so interactive, it was so fun as a kid (and probably still is tbh!)

  5. Thank you for joining in Wattle! We have loads in common, like the trees, loving Hogwarts Christmas (although who wouldn’t!), vouchers all the way, and salivating over all the food! Your mother’s ice-cream sounds amazing!

  6. Your mother makes ice cream by hand? Bless her Bre, she’s like her very own little house on the prairie. I ADORE your Christmas tree. It’s totally hipster! Can I ask where you got it from? I love a quiet Christmas, a sleep in and a lazy roast lamb for dinner. I’m hosting this year so will be up early unfortunately. Preparation even starts tomorrow for me, getting up at 6:00am to take the dog to the groomers and then braving the supermarket for fresh foods.

    Pray for me Bre.

    • lol she does, I think she’s crazy. It does taste pretty good though πŸ˜›

We got this tree from our local Christmas Shop a few years ago. We visited again this year and they had nothing like it at all (it was all very traditional and boring). I think it’s called an ornament display tree, if that helps!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas (and it wasn’t too exhausting!)
