Yes. I chose my favourite poster to represent the film since there’s a few to choose from haha (even if the date is wrong, it was released 26th October here *sigh*)

Now, I have to make it clear; Thor is my favourite Marvel character aside from Captain America/Steve Rogers (though I prefer the Thor movies). Thor: The Dark World was loved by no-one except me and one of my friends, we saw it 3 times in 3 days before I left the USA to fly back home, and then I saw it 2 more times at home (I was carrying out cinema screen quality research!)

Thor: Ragnarok had some rather massive expectations, and it mostly lived up to them for me. I couldn’t give this film 5 stars though, because there’s some things that bothered me.

But first, the good!

  • The colour. I loved how colourful this film is, literally! It fits in with Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of visuals, it’s very pleasing to the eye (or, my eyes).
  • The humour. Hemsworth has great comedic timing that has been wasted in the Marvel ‘verse for the most part. Hiddleston brought more personality to Loki (he’s so smug, I love him lol). Waititi totally stole the movie with his rather amusing cameo though!
  • Jeff Goldblum. I’m pretty sure he was just playing himself for the entire movie, and it was so fun!
  • Cate Blanchett is pretty badass as Hela. I really enjoyed her in this.
  • The plot. Finally, a Thor movie with a cohesive plot (mostly). The story itself worked pretty well, they didn’t try to make it overly dramatic and ridiculous.

The bad:

  • Karl Urban’s character didn’t do much, I felt like he didn’t really fit into the film properly.
  • Major spoiler alert (seriously, don’t click this if you haven’t seen it): View Spoiler »
  • Mark Ruffalo. I feel so bad for saying this, because I adore him as Bruce, but while everyone else felt genuine in this boisterous movie, he seemed to overact to keep up? Perhaps comedy doesn’t suit him, unless it’s dry humour.

So all in all, an enjoyable film but not my favourite. My top 5, for reference:

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier*
2. Thor: The Dark World
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Ant-Man
5. Thor: Ragnarok/Thor (can’t decide!)

*I know I said I prefer the Thor movies, and I really do as a whole. But TWS is a beast of a film (in comparison, Civil War made me bitchface multiple times). My least fave is Avengers: Age of Ultron which I will be bitter about forever (they should dump it and get Waititi to do a remake! 😆 )

  1. Thanks for sharing!! I’m glad that you mostly enjoyed the film, and I get what you mean in terms of the complaints. I did really love the humor overall!! I’d totally go see it again.

  2. Glad you enjoyed it! To be honest, I know *nothing* about superheroes and I don’t follow the Marvel/DC worlds or anything. I get them all confused. I have a friend who is way into it and she constantly tells me how disappointed she is in me. LOL I went to see one with my husband and can never remember the name (it had Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo and Scarlet Johansson among others). I think she’s ready to disown me. I’m sure my husband will want to see this one and and I may or may not go. Hemsworth is easy on the eyes so that might do it for me. LOL

    • lol I get some of the lesser known superheroes confused (mainly in the DC verse). Hemsworth is totally worth the effort to see it, I am so shallow when it comes to him 😆

  3. Mark Ruffalo seems an odd choice considering the rest of the cast, he sounds as though he doesn’t have the talent for comedy sadly. I’m not usually into superhero movies or comics but Hemsworth. Every movie would be better with a Hemsworth in there. I’m loving the Taika Waititi fashion on Twitter at the moment, he’s one happening cat. Great review Bre and glad you enjoyed it <3

    • I assume they’re working up to Planet Hulk (I think, could be wrong, that he’ll end up in the Guardians of the Galaxy ‘verse). They’re definitely slotting it into the next Avengers movie (which I don’t really want to see, but probably will because Captain America with a beard is worth seeing on a big screen 😆 )

Waititi is SO FUN, he’s such a troll lol (and his pineapple romper was the best thing ever).

  4. I’ve never seen any of these movies, the look is different tho. I heard this one was really good, but o.o cannot compare. Visually it does look very appealing

  5. I have watched the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but nothing else from Marvel. That’s interesting this one is colorful just like the guardians movies. Sounds like the humor is well done here and there were some great characters. Too bad about those two characters that didn’t seem to fit in the movie as well.

    • It seems like Thor will be meeting up with the Guardians in the next Avengers movie (judging by the trailer that just came out) which should be fun 🙂

  6. I haven’t read this movie. My husband and I were planning on watching together but things happened so we never had the chance. I’ve heard mixed reviews for this movie, too. Many prefer the previous ones and felt a bit disappointed with this one. Glad that you still enjoyed it. Love your review. ❤️?

    • Most casual fans seem to love it, but the ones who take it a bit more seriously found some flaws. They can’t please everyone though! It wouldn’t be a Marvel movie if some didn’t hate it haha

    • The Thor movies are some of the least serious Marvel have produced, they’re not laugh out loud funny ALL the time but they throw some jokes in. This one definitely ramped it up to 11!
