2017 Reading Challenges

Posted 1st January 2017 by Wattle in Books / 16 Comments

I’m so excited for my challenges this year! I didn’t want to sign up for too many, but I…might have added an extra couple I just couldn’t resist haha.

Over at Goodreads I’ve only committed to 52 books for the year (1 a week), but if I complete all my challenges, with any luck I should go beyond that.

  1. These challenges are great! I’m especially curious about the Paranormal one because I’ve got a few series I wanted to check out. One of them being Carpathia series by Christine Feehan, also the Kate Daniels series by Ilonah Andrews.

    Good luck with these!

    • The Kate Daniels series is on my list too! I started listening to the first audiobook and it started out great, but I just find it so hard to listen and do mindless things; so am going to read it the traditional way instead ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I also put my GR challenge lower than I expect to reach, it makes me feel better when I pass it ๐Ÿ˜‰ These sound like fun challenges! I practically read all paranormal as it is, haha, so I definitely think that sounds like a good one. And it was one of my goals last year to read more graphic novels. I like them but have only found a couple I really liked and wanted to continue :-/ Good luck with these challenges!

    • Haha yes, low expectations are great motivators sometimes ๐Ÿ˜› I have a LOT of graphic novels on my shelves but haven’t read many of them, shame. I do find I have favourite authors and artists, so I’m starting there. Added bonus is that most of them don’t take too long to get through ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. One a week is perfect, I should have made mine more realistic too Bre. I’ve slowed down so much with reading and find blogging / commenting and social media takes up quite a bit of reading time. I’m doing two challenges this year too! These are super casual and fit in with my reading habits, they’re just there for a little more incentive. Really looking forward to seeing your progress Bre and good luck sweetheart! <3 <3

    • I’m taking things as they come this year, I need to queue some posts before uni starts otherwise it’ll be super quiet for a few months, eek! I’ve been slowing down on the reading front, just literally taking more time to read a page. It’s pretty nice to feel all relaxed (unless a book is stressful, then not so much).

Good luck with your challenges and stuff this year too Kelly, it’s nice when they just fit into your habits; they’re like bonus points!

  4. Awesome challenges, I haven’t read any graphic novels – but I do want to try them out. Which ones would you recommend ? Hope you been well ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I would recommend Captain America: The Winter Soldier graphic novel, I really enjoyed it (and wish the author would write actual novels lol). Aside from that I’ve really liked the Hawkeye comics by Matt Fraction. I’ve not read much outside Marvel yet I’m afraid, so I’m a bit bias!

The Preacher graphic novels are meant to be great (the tv show is awesome, I love it), as is The Sandman by Neil Gaiman (which I’m ashamed to say I’ve not got to yet!)

  5. Good luck with these! That’s neat you joined a graphic novel and manga challenge. I used to read a lot of manga’s, but haven’t read any recently.

    • I don’t think I’ve ever read a manga, I’ve always found it a bit odd you read them backwards lol maybe I should give one a go, I’m pretty sure I have a couple that tie in with anime series I love (I assume the manga came first, hmm).

  6. Best of luck with all these challenges Wattle – they seem like a great way to set those reading goals and read widely as well. I hardly read any graphic novels which needs to change this year I think! There are so many to choose from though so I’m stumped at where to even begin haha

    • Thank you ๐Ÿ˜€ I must admit, I chose the graphic novel challenge because they are just so easy to read! I find I like reading ones that tv shows/movies are based on (I’m planning to start Preacher soon, the tv show is great) because the setting is already familiar.
